Core AWS observability service — metrics, logs, dashboards, and alarms across AWS resources. The foundational layer AWS composes into an APM story: on its own it's closer to Grafana + a metrics store than to Dynatrace or DataDog, since distributed tracing lives in AWS_X-Ray and automatic service-topology/RCA lives in AWS_Application_Signals. No single-agent auto-instrumentation or built-in AI root-cause engine — that gap is usually why enterprises pay for Dynatrace/DataDog even on AWS-native stacks.
