Managed file systems for specific engines — Windows File Server, Lustre, NetApp ONTAP, OpenZFS — matched to workload (SMB/AD integration, or high-speed ML/compute scratch space). FSx largely wraps existing open-source projects as managed services: Lustre and OpenZFS are themselves open source, so the direct alternative is self-hosting those same projects — same performance characteristics, without FSx's managed provisioning/patching.
